Peggy Kesler Cassady, age 88, of Salisbury, passed away on Saturday August 4, 2018, surrounded by family.
Born September 6, 1929, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Carr Kesler, Sr. and Julia Shields Kesler. Peggy graduated from Rockwell High School and Salisbury Business College, and she worked at the Scottish Bank. In 1956, Peggy married David Spencer Cassady, and they spent 54 years together before his death in 2010. She quit working outside the home to be with her growing family. She also worked for many years as an election official for the Hatters Shop precinct.
Peggy was a lifelong member of Providence United Methodist Church. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and children, for whom she loved baking cakes and cookies and creating throw blankets and handcrafted decorations. Camping was a big part of Peggy and David’s retirement years, and they made many friends and happy memories doing this. All who knew Peggy well knew that she was a huge NASCAR fan, her favorite being the great Jeff Gordon.
In addition to her parents and husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Carr Kesler, Jr., and her sister, Mary Julia Kesler Honbarger.
Those left to cherish her memory include son, Michael Cassady (Sissy) of Salisbury; daughters, Carolyn Cassady of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Pamela Cassady Sen (David) of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Cassady (Caroline) of Raleigh, Katie Cassady of Lisle, IL, Jeremy Sen of Charlottesville, VA., and Andy Sen of Seattle, WA; brother, Jimmie Kesler (Barbara) of Salisbury; brother-in-law, Bob Honbarger of Salisbury; and many nieces and nephews.
The family is thankful for the care and love that was given to Peggy by the staff at Autumn Care, by Dr. Ronnie Barrier, and by Branson Pethel.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Providence United Methodist Church, from 1 to 1:45 pm. The service will follow at 2 pm with the Rev. Aldana Allen officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church – Cemetery Fund, 6450 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
