Peter Gregory Gooden, loving husband, father, grandfather brother, uncle, friend, died on September 16, 2021 in Charlotte, N.C. He was born on the island of Jamaica on September 2, 1956, to Klave T. Gooden and Hope T. Gooden (both deceased).
Peter attended St. George’s College (high school) where he excelled in academics and as an accomplished track athlete. Through an athletic scholarship, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He also obtained an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Master of Economics degree from the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland. His career was multifaceted; Plant Manager at Ashland Chemicals in New Jersey and Texas, Plant Manager at Aristech Surfaces in New Mexico, Business Improvement Consultant at Thales in London, and more recently as a Real Estate Broker in the Seattle area.
Peter lived with an unbridled passion for Jesus. He gave generously of his time, possessions and resources. He loved a spirited discussion and was committed to his beliefs be it religion, politics, philosophy or some other affinity. Playing golf, enjoying good Jamaican and Japanese cuisines, and having an excellent appreciation for good wine and rum were his latest passions. He was fun-loving with a sharp sense of humor, and he enjoyed people, gatherings and laughter. Peter was extremely committed to family.
He is survived by his wife, Eddy; son, Jean-Paul; grandchildren, Naomi (8) and Lawson (3); brothers, Michael, Mark, Lvnford; a sister, Ruth; as well as nieces, nephews and three grand-nieces.
Heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, staff, and volunteers at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Hospice Unit in Charlotte, NC for their care, compassion and support during Peter’s final days. Additionally, profound thanks to you all for your condolences, prayers and kind tributes of reflection.
Details on joining his family (virtually) to celebrate his life, will be forthcoming.
Carolina Cremation of Charlotte and Salisbury is assisting the Gooden family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.

To the gooden family my deepest condolences. I met Peter while he was transitioning between careers and he came to work for me at the pro desk at the Bellevue home depot. I could tell by the end of the first day he did not need my help dealing with customers he was a natural. Extremely smart, personable. Funny and right away one of my favorite associates. We became friends instantly and he taught me something about myself that I can’t explain but I will be forever grateful and will never forget. My life is better for having known and worked with him even if it was for only a short time. I look forward to seeing Peter on the other side I still have a thousand questions for him but until then rest in peace my friend you are missed but never forgotten and try not to rock the boat up there too much.
Your friend. Travis S. Conger

Dearest Eddie, family, friends and fans of Peter,
We were all incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to meet, work and get to know Peter Gooden. He was an exceptional man with the most generous and nurturing heart. He brought hope and warmth and served God so well. He was truly inspiring in so many ways. I learnt much from Peter including tolerance, understanding, problem solving. I always considered him a brave man deserving utmost respect. He shared many many stories of his life with me from his upbringing in Jamaica, life in Dallas, how he met his true love through to his experiences in China and India. We’ve had great debates which helped strengthen me and my belief. We had great times together exploring things we enjoyed.
I simply can’t say it enough, but Peter was a truly dear and special friend to me, an angel in disguise. I miss him greatly and pray that God gives courage, strength and more to Eddy and all who Peter loved and adored.
Sending you all my love and soulful hugs with my sincerest condolences.
And thank you Peter for coming into my life and sharing so much. My eternal gratitude to you, I know you’ll be smiling in heaven whispering encouragement…..
Tony Edmondson says
Everton Anthony Edmondson & Family,
We are so sad to hear this news today. Our condolence to Eddy and Peter’s entire family. His obituary should have included his talent in karate as a Shorin-Ryu expert black belt to underscore the broad range of talents he acquired through the years. I met Peter in the Dojo well over 20 years ago in Houston. He will always be remembered for his caring, compassion, humbleness, brilliance and multifaceted skills.
We, The Edmondsons, Love Him–as so many who came to know him have.

Would like express sincere condolences to the Gooden family for the loss of a true and wonderful human being. Met Peter in Beijing in our Church small group and eventually became golf buddies. Our time in Beijing was one filled with learning and sharing God’s words together within our church community, playing golf and attending our weekly small group meeting.
I can honestly say that Peter was truly a very spiritual being. He had a strong passion for the word of God and had a unique way making others understand what the Bible says. It was from him that I learned how lead a Bible study session within our small group, how to articulate the word of God and how to make it relative to how we live our lives as Christians.
He will be truly missed by myself and our group. Now you have gone on to be with your maker and one day we will meet again.
Cheers my friend.
