Rachel Carter Fail Price, of Salisbury, was received into Heaven on April 30, 2017, at age 86. Her final days were spent in the home she loved surrounded by family and friends (and Gigolo, the pet toy poodle). Rachel resided with her daughter Jean, and son-in-law, Gary Allen.
Rachel was born October 14, 1930, to James Arthur Carter and Lily Clark Carter, in Richlands, NC, and, was a student at Richlands High.
Rachel Price was a lady of many talents and always very active, and she was routinely asked to serve in leadership roles. Her skills and talents over her many years consisted of: farming, cattle ranching, interior designer for a leading hotel chain along the Atlantic coast, quilting, officer in the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), cook, grocery chain manager, served as a Women’s Missionary Union leader over the years in three counties (Rowan, Martin, and Washington), and inspirational speaker. She was a current member of the King’s Daughter Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC. Her greatest joy was having learned to play chimes in her retirement years with the Gold and Silver Chime Choir led by Libby Carlton at First Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC.
Rachel had for the past 20 years suffered with poor health, but that did not deter her from actively caring and praying for others. She called the sick and the “shut in” of her church on a regular basis to encourage, to lighten their burdens, and to cheer and pray with and for them. Though she was very frail, she served the Lord faithfully by ministering to others from her hospital bed in her home.
Rachel loved family, gardening, bird watching, reading, traveling when she was able, and lifting the spirit of others, be they young or old. Her church and its ministry occupied her greatest interest.
Rachel Price is survived by her loving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren:
*Children: Brenda “Jean” Fail Allen (of the home) and husband, Gary Dean Allen; Judy Fail Baldwin of Troutville, Virginia, and husband, Steve Baldwin; and, James Daniel Fail of Raleigh, NC, and wife, Lori Miller Fail.

Seamon; Chad Cross, grandson of Salisbury, NC, and wife, Shelley Wood Cross; and, Paula Uribe Craven, granddaughter of Lexington, NC, and husband, Thomas “Blu” Craven.

Rachel is predeceased by her first husband, the father of her three children, James Jackson Fail, born April 29, 1922, of Wayne County, NC, and who died on January 21, 1984. Her remains will be buried with her loving husband at Rowan Memorial Park at 4125 Franklin Community Center Road, Salisbury, NC, at a private service yet to be determined. Rachel’s second husband, John Elton Price, died in 1997, in Williamston, NC. She and John were co-owners of the J and R Cattle Ranch in Martin County, NC. It was always difficult for John to sell the cattle, because Rachel loved on them so and gave each one a name according to their individual personality.
Rachel was one of fourteen (14) children, and of those children, the following survive her: Carrie Marshburn of Jacksonville, NC; Betty Lou “Betsy” Henderson of Wilmington, NC; and, Delores “Dee” Gosselin (Mrs. Roger Gosselin) of Rocky Mount, NC. Her siblings who pre-deceased her are: Rose Sheely of Murray, KY; Ruby Futrell of NC; James Arthur Carter, Jr. of NC; Herbert “Bob” Carter of Covington, VA; Herring Levi Carter of NC; James Edgar “Eddie” Carter of Covington, VA; Sara Marshburn of NC; Catherine Byrd of NC; Margaret Melton of NC; and Martha Moore of NC.
Details of Rachel’s memorial service, scheduled for Saturday, June 3, 2017, and to be held at First Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC, will be forthcoming.

I have been married for 23 years. Let me just say that my own epic fail on this point did carry negative couesqnences into my marriage that I am paying for to this day. The hell of it is that Dorie pays every day two for my fail. That is the hardest payment to face for me. Think about that one!

I am so sorry to hear about Rachel’s death. I only met her once and she left a mark. She was a sweet woman and I fell in love with her which wasn’t hard to do. She had a sweet soul. May she rest in peace. She is dancing and singing praises to our Lord and Savior, Jesus in her gloried body!
