Rev. Dr. John H Reeves, age 74, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Imogene; three children, Jeffery Reeves and his wife, Angie; Stephen Reeves and his wife, Elizabeth; Angela Galloway and her husband, Duane; his grandchildren – Aaron, Patton, Seth, Nathan, Hannah, Tobias, Dillin, and Ivy; great-grandchild – Aiden; as well as his brother, Franklin; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, John H. Reeves, Sr., and mother, Virginia Reeves from Thomaston, GA.
Rev. Dr. Reeves was born in Thomaston, GA. He graduated from Jean Ribault High School in Jacksonville, FL. In 1967 he married the love of his life, Imogene Braswell. He was a member of the Navy Reserve and was given an honorable discharge.
He received his associate degree from Mitchell Community College, his bachelor’s degree from High Point College, now University, his Master of Divinity from Emory University – Candler School of Theology, and his Doctorate from Christian Life School of Theology. He will be presented with a Doctor of Divinity posthumous from IMPACT School of Ministry.
He was an ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church for 12 years, from 1982-1994, having served churches throughout Western North Carolina and Northwest Georgia. After leaving the UMC, he ministered to and with many people throughout the years. Then he found joy as a teacher at China Grove Middle School for 10 years teaching history and language arts before retiring.
He was then ordained through Evangel Fellowship International. He served as the Dean of Students at IMPACT School of Ministry located at Destiny City Church. Having been trained in England many years ago, he used this knowledge to become the founder of the Piedmont North Carolina Chapter of Industrial and Commercial Ministries chaplaincy program. He was also an active member and the chaplain of The Sons of the American Revolution in Rowan County. Rev. Dr. John H. Reeves will be greatly missed by the many lives he impacted throughout his faith-filled life.
The family will receive visitors from 12-1pm on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Destiny City Church, 2324 South Main St. Salisbury, NC 28147. A memorial service will follow, beginning at 1pm.
