Richard Elton Small, 58, of Salisbury, NC, passed away peacefully at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House on June 21, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Born April 20, 1966 in Salisbury, NC he was the son of Eleanor Potts and George Small.
Richard owned and operated SunnySide Farms along with his Mom, Eleanor Potts. Previously he worked at Kepley Construction and Towing for 12 years and owned and operated a long-haul trucking company.
Richard was happiest when he was with his daughter on the farm, making hay and tending his cows. He loved his family and friends and telling a good story that would make them laugh. His quick wit and fun easy-going nature made Richard everyone’s friend. Fifteen of his friends showed up on a recent Friday afternoon to make his hay and get it in the barn; a true testament to their love for Richard.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Williams Small; daughter Charly Small, of Rocky Point, NC; mother, Eleanor Potts of Salisbury; father, George Small (Bonnie) of Salisbury; sister Cyndi Thomason (David) of Harrison, Arkansas, niece Alaina Thomason, of Bellingham, Washington and numerous special nieces and nephews from the Williams family.
The family is forever grateful for friends Mark Stiller, Ethan Hiatt, Carey Barbee and Bernestine and Tiffany of Novant Health Hospice Care of Salisbury for all their support for Richard and the family during this challenging time. They were the rainbow in our cloud.
There will be a private service at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Garin Kluttz Scholarship Fund, West Rowan FFA Alumni, 8050 NC Highway 801, Mt. Ulla, NC 28125. Garin was a dear friend that lost his battle to cancer last June.
Carolina Cremation of Salisbury is assisting the Small family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.

I love you Richard. Thank you being so kind to me when I was an international exchange student from Vietnam when I was w your sister Cyndi. Thank you for considering me as a part of the family for a short time. I’m now a farmer too, and I wish that I had some time to get to know your farm life. Thank you for leading such a great life. You will forever in my heart.
