Steve Lynn Boles, age 63, of Charlotte NC, passed away on Monday May 28, 2018 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. Steve was born on March 1, 1955 in Stanly County, NC to the late Haywood Boles and Victoria Mabry Boles.
He graduated from Pfeiffer University with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. At the time of his death he was employed as a sales consultant for Carmax. Through the years he also worked as a bartender at Panthers stadium and was a theatre, film, and TV actor for over forty years. While these jobs sustained he and his family, his full time gig was building others up and making them laugh. He enjoyed watching sports, cooking, and he loved the NY Yankees.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Michael Haywood Boles; his brother Clarence Haywood Boles; and his sister Betty Jo Ritchie.
Steve is survived by his wife of 35 years, Phyllis VanCleave of Charlotte; and their daughter Sara. He most enjoyed any time he could spend with his wife and children. His quick wit and never ending desire to make others laugh was a gift to all and will be sorely missed. He embraced and was able to reach all generations with his intelligence and gregarious personality.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday June 7, 2018 at St Mark Catholic Church (14740 Stumptown Rd, Huntersville, NC). The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. The ashes will be placed in the columbarium at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Steve left a piece of his heart with all who had the good fortune to know him.

My thought and prayers are with Phyllis and Sara during this sad time of their life. Steve was a friend of my family while living in Albemarle. He was such a comedian, always made you smile. He will be missed by many!

Since hearing of Steve’s abrupt passing last week, not a morning has come without him sweeping into my thoughts when I wake. He was a friend for decades and I admired his ability as a performer from the beginning. We worked together twice, I think. First in Swan Theatricals production of “Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been” and, most memorably, in “The Nerd” produced by The Blowing Rock Stage Company. I enjoyed his Facebook posts most of the time. His humor was always evident. We have lived on opposite coasts since 1988, but, thankfully, we stayed in touch. I am grateful to have known him and truly regret this premature finale. Love you Steve, Phyllis and Sara. — Steve Howard

Performing with Steve in Oklahoma was a highlight of my career. Assisting in the production of Fiddler on the Roof was so gratifying as well. I just recently found out that Steve had passed away. I was devastated at the loss of such a talented man. Steve Whitley

Early this morning I watched the movie “Dead Man Walking” and immediately recognized Steve. Steve and I were both auditioning for a part in a Pfeiffer College play in 1977 and after watching his audition, I realized what it required to be a real actor. Though I only knew him briefly, his passion was real, his humor was infectious and he left an indelible impression. RIP

It was my pleasure to direct Steve in the Uwharrie players first production of OKLAHOMA. When he opened his mouth, I knew we had found our Jud.
He was so much fun and so talented. I just learned of his passing. Although it was five years ago I am saddened that this wonderful man has passed so soon.
