Thomas “Tom” Lee Fehrs, passed away on September 5, 2021 at the age of 79, in Charlotte, North Carolina. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Tom loved his family dearly, kept his sense of humor and stayed strong until the end.
Tom was born in Grove City, PA, on December 26, 1941 to Virginia and Willard Fehrs. When Tom was 17,
he joined the U.S. Navy. He met his wife to be Mary while stationed in Norfolk, VA in December 1959.
They met at church youth group and later married in August 1961. They had two daughters, Robin and
Jo Anne
Tom retired from the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in 1984 after 25 years of explementary service. He went to work at Newport News Ship Building right after where he worked for 11 years as an
Engineering Planning Supervisor. He then found his “fun job” as a travel agent where he fell in love with
cruising. Tom passed his excitement and passion for traveling down to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary E. Fehrs, his brother Robert L. Fehrs (Linda D. Fehrs), his
daughters Robin Fehrs Croghan (Ty W. Croghan) and Jo Anne Fehrs Glover, his grandchildren Thomas M.
Glover (Alyssa Glover), Samantha N. Glover and Claire A. Croghan. As well as his great grandchildren
Madalynn J. Glover and Brayden T. Glover
Tom was happiest while surrounded by his family and close friends. He loved being at the beach for
Thanksgiving, hosting cook outs and happy hours, and playing games. So many of us have purple bags filled with quarters. His contagious smile and his loving spirit will be missed by us all.
A private memorial service will be held for the family in the Outer Banks.
Carolina Cremation of Charlotte and Salisbury is assisting the Fehrs family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.

My condolences to Mary and Tom’s family. While I only knew Tom for a couple of years he became a delightful friend and I enjoyed playing games with him as well as going to coffee and hearing about his past. I will miss him.
