Tony Wayne Burgess Sr., 67, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2015 after a courageous and intense battle with cancer. In his final days he was surrounded by the love of family and friends. He was born August 11, 1947 in Charlotte, NC before moving to Kannapolis where he grew up and attended South Rowan High School.
After school he joined the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne and in 1990 joined and served one tour with the 1454th National Guard Transportation Unit during Operation Desert Storm.
Mr. Burgess is survived by his wife Bobbi Burgess and his step daughter, Ivi Dillard; his daughters Lachelle Roberts (Barry), Amber Belandria (Jose) and son, Tony Burgess Jr (Julie). He is also survived by his mother, Lillian Burgess and two siblings, Sherry West (Alan) and Brady Burgess (Tomi) and four grandchildren, Katelyn Roberts, Chase Roberts, Chandler Burgess and Caydence Burgess.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Burgess.
There will be a memorial service held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Corriher Heights Baptist Church, 1980 NC Hwy 153, China Grove, NC 28023. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.

tony was the best friend and service manager at walmart 2005. we had many a great times working together , joking , and laughing .tony was fun to be around and the nicest person you could have meet.as for me tony will truly be missed and always remember as my friend-jw
