Vicki Lynn Gibson , 61, of Landis, NC passed away January 21, 2017, at home with her family from complications due to cancer. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Michigan.
Mrs. Gibson was born August 29, 1955 in Marquette MI. She graduated Marquette Senior high school in 1973. She was an alumni of NMU, telephone operator, Librarian, bus driver, and she loved her family at ACN.
A mother to not only her 4, but to many others in need of a mother. She had many sayings some even called them Vicki-isams. Such as “Pull up your big girl panties”, “rain makes your brain grow”, “if you get the chance to dance… dance”, “Save yourself Danielle” and “Fight like a hockey player“. She always knew to say just what you needed to hear. She liked to be called the mean Grandma even though all the grandchildren would argue with her about being the best Grandma. Her door was always open. When it came to cancer advice she would always tell you to “hug yourself”, her cancer was found under the arm.
In her spare time she loved quilting and crafting with her grandkids. Her quilts are the best cure to anything. She would say when she gave you one “it’s not meant to be beautiful, but warm and full of love, so use it”.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bernice (Cole) Delarye and Gerald O. Delarye.
She is survived by her husband, Art Gibson; 4 children, Brian, James, Nikki, and Eldora; sister Debbie; 12 grandchildren depending on who was counting; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House, and The F*** Cancer foundation.
Carolina Cremation is assisting the Gibson family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.

Gibson Family and Debbie-
So sorry to hear of the loss of Vicki.
Our families were neighbors and good close friends on Lakewood Lane in Marquette. Her parents were my god parents, spent lot of time next door.
Every time I would see Vicki over the years always got a hug. Last time I saw her was last December when she stopped at Red Rock Lanes to see my mom inducted into the bowling hall of fame. Was so good to see her. I will always remember her smile and her hugs.
She had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone.
I send my thoughts and prayers to her family and sister Debbie. You have a special guardian angel watching over you.
R.I.P Vicki, you will be missed.
Love, Deanna (Cuff) Adams

I warmly remember having Vicki as a student in one of my classes at NMU and was saddened to see her obituary. By her example of respect, her own standard of work ethic and her friendliness, she was a wonderful influence on the atmosphere in the classroom and perhaps a longer-lasting influence on her fellow students.

My condolences go out to the Art Gibson family and to Debbie. I haven’t seen Vicki in years, so I was shocked when I found out she has passed. Especially to cancer, I hate cancer, I am a 14 year cancer survivor myself and I wish Vicki could have survived and kicked it’s butt too. Vicki and I were pretty good friends in high school but lost touch shortly after we graduated. But have spoken to Debbie over the years. Debbie, if you read this, get in touch with me, I’m still in the phone book. Vicki was a great person inside and out and I’m sure she will be sadly missed by all that loved her. Again, with my deepest sympathy to all of you and may you find some comfort in knowing that Vicki is now your Guardian Angel watching over each and every one of you. May God Bless all of you. Rest In Peace Vicki Love, Adele
