Willie Colleen Upright, 83, of Kannapolis, passed away on Monday November 30, 2015 at Big Elm Retirement & Nursing Center in Kannapolis. Ms. Upright was born on February 15, 1932 in Rowan County to the late Marvin Eugene Upright and Daisy Morris Upright.
She graduated from Landis High School and worked as a seamstress for Draymore Manufacturing where she retired from. Colleen was a lifelong member and very active with Concordia Lutheran Church in China Grove. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, arts and crafts, and she was always helping others. Colleen never met a stranger and loved to spend time with family and friends. She will be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends as someone who always had a smile on her face and was always helping others before herself.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Harry “Gene” Legene Upright, and a sister, Dorothy Upright Rumple.
She is survived by a sister, Hazel Upright Fortson Boatwright of Kannapolis; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Upright of Kannapolis; nieces and nephews, Judy Rumple Harwell, Kenneth Upright, David Fortson (Renee), Malia Upright Foil (Mike), and Janice Fortson Cruse; great nieces and nephews, Gina, Leann, Ross, Amber, and Danielle; and many great great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday December 5, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Concordia Lutheran Church (185 Concordia Church Rd., China Grove, NC 28023) conducted by Pastor Kenneth Reed Jr. and Pastor Larry Bost.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Concordia Lutheran Church Columbarium Fund, 185 Concordia Church Rd., China Grove, NC 28023.
Interment will take place at a later date in the Concordia Lutheran Church Columbarium.

Colleen was such a joy to know at Big Elm. I will miss seeing her smiling face first thing in the morning at the nurses station. She was a quiet and gentle woman. My condolences to her family.
